The kids at Sanchez Elementary are always excited for bike club adventures. Every Monday they ask us, “where are we going today?” This time, we left the destination up to them. With a resounding, “the park,” we decided to venture through the streets of East Austin, ending at the Edward Rendon Sr. Park at Festival Beach.  We cruised down to Lady Bird Lake and across the I-35 pedestrian bridge to the Boardwalk on the South side of Town Lake. Riding the Boardwalk is voted #1 most favorite path by all of our students. Most of the aquatic and avian wildlife of Austin can be spotted riding on this trail. Often times, we take a break to count how many turtles and fish we can count.

Continuing East on the boardwalk towards Pleasant Valley, the students faced one of the most challenging dirt hills in the city. After reviewing the proper way to shift gears, the kids at Sanchez climbed the hill from the lake to the top of the Longhorn Dam. At the top of the Dam, the students were rewarded with a stunning view of Lady Bird Lake and Downtown Austin. Proceeding on the Hike and Bike Trail, we crossed Chicon and headed towards our park destination. After a quick water break, the students of Sanchez Elementary were so excited to hit the slides and swings at Edward Rendon Sr. Park!
