The students at Metz Elementary had a very special opportunity to meet with Council Member Gregorio Casar. Using the skills they had learned on previous rides, the kids took Chicon Street down to the Lady Bird Lake Hike and Bike Trail to reach their downtown destination. It was the first time many of the students had traveled downtown via bike and they all commented on how easy it is to travel Austin if you know the right path! Once they cruised under the 1st street bridge, we stopped the students for a quick tutorial on how to shift gears. This how-to allowed the kids to ride up and over the bridge with ease. Crossing the light at Cesar Chavez was the last obstacle the students faced before reaching City Hall.

Once inside City Hall, Council Member Casar took the students on a tour of the building. They were able to see where the Council Members meet and even took to the podium to practice their legislative skills. After the tour, Casar sat and answered questions from our students. The kids were curious about challenges of the job as a Council Member, how decisions are made, and if he could help build more parks in their neighborhood.
