Ghisallo Cycling Initiative (GCI) is looking for an Executive Director (ED) to replace our founder who is relocating. Ghisallo is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2011 based in Austin, Texas, with dedicated staff in Austin and San Antonio. We are seeking an ED who is passionate about enabling historically underserved populations to access their interests by bicycle. 

Who We Need

The ED oversees the organization’s overall mission and daily operations to create a future in which people of all ages and abilities can explore and connect with their communities by bicycle, and all have access to bikes at an affordable cost. The ED leads, supports, and inspires staff in their efforts to develop communities of comfortable and confident lifelong riders. We are also looking for the new ED to partner with the board and applicable stakeholders to explore the organization’s impact on health outcomes and climate change, design metrics and to develop and implement a formal communications plan laser-focused on a small set of KPIs.

  • View bicycles as a tool, which can be utilized to help address individual, community, organizational, and municipal challenges related to climate change, health outcomes, mobility, and societal needs
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

The Role

Mission, Policy, and Planning

  • Ensure that Ghisllo is living up to its values, is aligned with its vision, and is reaching its goals.
  • Review and update current policies and procedures.
  • Provide accurate data to the board, outlining Ghisallo’s effectiveness and results.
  • Update and implement strategic plan and associated budgets.
  • Understand and identify new opportunities for growth.
  • Provide leadership on key issues affecting riders of all ages and abilities served by our programs.


  • Work in partnership with Board and staff to accomplish Ghisallo’s vision and strategic plan.
  • Work with Board Chair to enable Board to fulfill its governance functions.

Management and Administration

  • Provide general oversight of all Ghisallo Cycling Initiative activities.
  • Manage and participate in day-to-day operations, assuring a smoothly functioning, efficient organization.
  • Assure program quality and organizational stability through implementation of standards, controls, systems, and procedures.
  • Build and maintain a work environment that recruits, retains, and supports quality staff and volunteers.
  • Specify standards for management personnel and evaluation performance regularly.
  • Evaluate and understand the strengths and challenges of Ghisallo programs as a whole and uniquely within each city served. 


  • Oversee Ghisallo’s fiscal activities, including budgeting, reporting, and audit; prudently manage organization’s resources within budget guidelines according to current laws and regulations.
  • Work with the Board to ensure financing to support short-term and long-term goals.
  • Promote organizational innovation and efficiency to enhance revenue potential.

Community Relations and Fund Development

  • Serve as Ghisallo’s chief spokesperson and advocate within the public.
  • Engage with and listen to clients, volunteers, donors, and the community to improve services.
  • Increase community awareness of Ghisallo’s programs, services, and impacts.
  • Work with Board and staff on diversifying revenue streams and pursuing new funding opportunities. 
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders such as elected representatives, government managers, community leaders, and corporate representatives.

Salary and Benefits

Salary: $80,000+

Benefits: QSEHRA (Qualified Small Employer Health Reimbursement Arrangement), employer-sponsored health coverage subsidy, vacation and sick leave, holidays
