The Rio Grande ribbon cutting event for Austin’s first “Green Lane Project” is on Monday, April 23rd. The ribbon cutting ceremony is at 3:45pm with the inaugural bike ride on this new cycle track following at 4:30pm. This stretch is part of our Rio Grande adoption though Keep Austin Beautiful.

Clean Sweep is KAB’s annual citywide cleanup that takes place all over Austin. In 2011 there were 136 cleanup locations all around Austin (31 zip codes) which collected over 25 tons of trash (from public spaces) and over 45,000 cigarette butts! Today’s cleanup took a bit longer than usual due to the amount of junk scattered across the bikeway and the surrounding area. Everything on the ground has been picked up but we left the posters on the pillars for the memories.

We finished our 2nd 2012 clean-up of the Lance Armstrong Bikeway 4th street/I-35 underpass. Gloves, broom, and shovels were brought and the bag of trash was carted away by bike trailer. There was a surprising amount of glass this week, but not anymore!
