We are excited to announce the launch of the Wheelie Good Snack Packs!
This program is part of our City Cyclist – People Powered Places initiative providing essential and supportive services and developing community connections, all by bike. Building on the success of our Halloween Trick or Treat (Delivered) to You event, we will be delivering snack packs to over 150 kids in East Austin every week for the next two months starting this Tuesday (3/16/2021). Healthy and delicious, the first week will include an apple, carrots, string cheese, and a granola bar. Plus regular community social contact (even if it is contactless during a curbside drop off) which is important for all of us!
To celebrate the launch of this program we are creating limited edition “Wheelie Good Snack Packs” t-shirts and tank tops. They won’t be available for sale, but they will be available to donors who provide support our Cycle Academy @ Langford Elementary School project.
We have been running programs at Langford for over six (6) years; Bicycle Skills Challenges, Bike Clubs, clinics, classes, events, and more. Langford was the first school in AISD to pilot our Bicycle Lending Library and we have an active BikeStart (learn-to-ride) pilot occurring with their Special Education students.
This spring we are partnering with Langford to be able to provide even more programs and services to their students and the community at-large. We are developing an on-campus Ghisallo Community Bike Shop and a youth bicycle trail and skills loop, an in-school beginner bike mechanic instruction program with dedicated instructional bikes and tools, an Earn-a-Bike program, BikeStart for all students, community rides, and other events. All in addition to the programs already occurring with the goal of full integration of bicycling into student life at Langford.
Help us get started by donating to this program, and you can receive a Wheelie Good Snack Packs shirt as a thank you gift. If you donate $25 or more between now and 3/31/2021, you will be eligible to receive a shirt. We are hoping collect at least $2,500 in donations between now and the end of March with shirts being available after 4/15/2021, just in time for Bike Month in May. The shirts will be screen printed on Alternate Apparel unisex Go-To T-Shirt or Go-To Tank Top, each in Sunset Gold.
The Wheelie Good Snack Packs shirts will not be shipped. Once they are printed, donors will be notified and the shirts will be available for pick-up from East Side Pedal Pushers (4607 Bolm Rd Suite B, Austin, TX 78702) during their regular business hours.
