We were proud to participate in Maplewood Elementary’s Bike-to-School Day this month. Maplewood Elementary has a thriving student bike commuter culture with strong support from parents and the community at large.
The ride began at the pool and basketball courts in the adjacent Muller Development and was as much a bike parade as a ride to school with parents, students, dogs in trailers and streamers on bikes. We rode through the neighborhood, had to cross Airport Blvd which was a bit of a challenge due to the limited facilities and were forced to split the group and do some careful rider management using crosswalks rather than the road. The ride finished with a hill leading into the north side of the school and although some students had to walk up it rather than ride, everyone finished happy and went to class with bicycle and 1 mile ride pins for their efforts.
