In 2015 we returned to Dobie Middle School for the Ghisallo Cycling Initiative Summer Bike Club. It was great to build on the success from our Summer 2014 program.
This Summer we had some returning riders from 2014. We also had some students from our Earn-A-Bike Program at The Boys’ & Girls’ Club – East Club. It was good to see some familiar faces along with the new students signed up for this Summer’s Bike Club.
The summer started with practicing skills while riding around the track, which quickly lead to rides around the surrounding neighborhoods and ending at a nearby creek. The kids really enjoyed using the recently installed Cycle Track between Rundberg Lane and Hart Elementary. The creek at the half-way point was definitely a good reward for the hard work the students put in everyday.
For a special trip we took a 7 mile round trip to Reagan High School for a game of Kickball. On the way, we took a much needed break at the corner store to hydrate and pick-up some snacks before starting the game.
With all the riding the students really showed their skills for not only riding safely but supporting each other and navigating the routes.
the Ghisallo Cycling Initiative is looking forward to working with the Launchpad Program to expand our programming at Dobie MS even more next year.
