This August, Austin’s local radio stations KUT/KUTX selected us to be the nonprofit featured in the Get Involved Spotlight! By promoting our mission and services and asking for help from new volunteers, we are able to more easily let Austin know how its citizens can get directly involved with their community.

KUT joined us during one of our Turner Roberts Bike Rodeos to film us in action serving the local community as well as to get interview material for their website.

As you may know, the Ghisallo Cycling Initiative is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2011 and based in Austin, Texas. Our primary mission to help youth develop into self-sufficient riders who have the skills and knowledge to use their bicycles for transportation without depending on adults. With a focus on exploration, navigation, and transportation, we create the opportunity for youth to explore and connect with their communities, to learn to navigate and access the city, and to use their bikes for transportation, to the parks, the pool, their friends’ houses, and school.

Our core clients are are low-income, at-risk students to whom we provide semester-long, after-school Bike Clubs, a free Youth Bike Shop and Earn-A-Bike program, Bicycle Rodeos, and maintenance and safety clinics. Since 2013 we have served over 8,000 youth participants via Bike Clubs and Earn-A-Bike programs and another 5,000+ through Bike Rodeos at over 30 sites across Austin.
