the Ghisallo Cycling Initiative was excited to be invited to be a part of the first ever Baranoff Elementary School Wellness Day.

The Wellness Day is different than traditional field days in that all children participate all day, in a cooperative, not competitive, atmosphere. It is a day dedicated to celebrating wellness, and it consists of many interactive experiences by special guests from around the community and Texas.

We worked with the PE coach to perform an outdoor Bike Rodeo for all of the 3rd grade students. Unfortunately, the day of the event, the record-setting rain hampered our plans for any outdoor activities. Undaunted, we modified our program and set-up in a classroom provided by the school.

We instructed the students in the ABCD Quick Check and a Helmet Clinic. We also broke out the bike part hang tags for a instructional relay game. The kids worked together to identify the parts on a cue sheet and then hurried to hang the tags on the bike in the proper spots.

It was great to take a potential disappointment and create a definite fun and educational event for the kids. This proof of the success of the event came in the large envelope of Thank You notes sent by the students and staff.

Students learn the ins and outs of the ABCD Quick Check.
