Once all the kids were loaded in the bus provided by the Boys & Girls Club, we made the journey to Walnut Creek Park. We met the Austin Ridge Riders who helped get everyone fitted to the bikes that they provided for the day. After a short lesson from the ARR instructors on the parts of the bikes and how to effectively use the gears, we hit the trails. The riders took to the challenging trails with great enthusiasm and application of the lessons learned during the introductions.
After the trails, the kids wanted to head over to the BMX-style Pump Track. At the track they practiced a jumping and landing. They attacked the jumps and whoop-de-doos, gaining confidence with each run. Even the regular riders on the track said how impressed they were with the kids’ skills.
After a long but gratifying day, the kids grabbed some well deserved naps on the return bus ride to the Boys & Girls Club.
All-set to head out on the trails.
