The summer is coming to an end and so is the final summer session of the Boys and Girls Club EAST Campus Bike Club. It was a little slow as summer always is when you are dealing with kids and the infinite activity opportunities available during their summer break, but we still got a lot done.

Two three week sessions with a break in the middle for the week of July 4th club closing, resulted in five new earned bikes and a good number of repairs, flat changes, and other basic maintenance. Each week consisted of two 1.5 hour classes on Monday and Wednesdays from 3:30-5pm and students were expected to attend the majority of these classes both to have sufficient time to repair their selected bikes and to help others with their bikes in the event they finished early.

The Boys and Girls Club summer programming ends in two weeks before restarting with their Fall after-school schedule on September 3rd. Two weeks isn’t enough time to be sure we can finish a new set of earn-a-bikes so we are going to take a small summer vacation of our own and pick back up with evening classes (6:30-8pm) when the Fall schedule begins.
